An uncharacteristically dry, sunny and crisp October morning greeted those who participated in the Barrow CC Golf Day hosted by neighbours, Vicars Cross Golf Club. After a hearty breakfast of a bacon bap and limitless coffee, 24 golfers, consisting of Barrow CC members and supporters alike, took to the golf course, with some superb displays on show!
Firstly a huge shout out to Vicars Cross for hosting us for a second year running - the course was in wonderful condition despite recent wet weather and a big thank you to Martin and the Bar Team for looking after us so well! Secondly, a massive thank you to Senior Men's Sponsors, Residential Estates, who have supported us by bringing a team along 2 years on the bounce and for sponsoring the prizes for this year's event!
The format of the day was an individual Stableford event, combined with a team event, with the best score out of 4 counting on the first 6 holes, the 2 best scores counting on holes 7-12 and the best 3 from 4 scores being totted up through holes 13-18. There were some fantastic contributions to the teams, whilst everyone was also competing against each other, which made for an interesting dynamic! We also recognised the biggest hacker of the day, with the person who lost the most balls, earning a resupply and the person who correctly guess the hacker winning a prize too.
The Hacker was won by Will Bailey, who littered the parkland with 3 lost balls and Lewis Tucker earned his prize for correctly sleuthing this before the round! Also, there must be an honourable mention for last year's Hacker, James Davis, who has clearly been practicing as he lost zero balls yesterday - well played!
In the team event, the competition was closely run, with the scores as follows:
1) 89 Points = Freddie Cheshire, Jack Hardman, Mark Cookson and Andy Kirk.
2) 87 Points = Jack Randle, Craig Scarisbrick, Will Bailey and John Manson.
3) 86 Points = Lee Dwyer, Tom Birch, Alex Hawksby and Andy Hawksby.
4) 85 Points = Chris Morrison, Andy Morrison, Emily McBurney and Bel Wardle.
5) 84 Points = Mikey Holliday, James Davis, Chris Morris and Ian Barlow.
6) 82 Points = Sam White, Caelen Hadwin, Lewis Tucker and George Fry.
In the individual competition, there were some exceptional scores, with the top 5 as follows:
1) 42 Points = Lee Dwyer
2) 41 Points = Mark Cookson
3) 37 Points = Chris Morrison / Craig Scarisbrick
4) 36 Points = Andy Morrison / Sam White
5) 35 Points = Lewis Tucker / Bel Wardle / Freddie Cheshire
Thanks again for everyone who came and supported the club yesterday, with us collectively raising £313 for projects around the cricket club! This is vital funds to help the running of the club and your support is very much appreciated. For those not yet involved in the club, we are always looking for new playing members of all abilities for our 3 senior men's teams and our women's team (The Barrownesses), volunteers and supporters who might just want to come and have a drink with us and watch some cricket on a sunny summer Saturdays. Everyone is welcome!
For club members, please remember our end of season groundwork day on Saturday 19th October, where the club is to be put to bed for winter! Please make an effort to attend if possible as many hands make light work! The Chairman has even promised bacon butties....
The next event in the calendar is the Barrow CC AGM, scheduled for Thursday 21st November (venue TBC). More details to follow, but again, please make an effort to attend as your voice counts.
