The recent wet weather didn't prevent some outdoor cricket action and the opening by John Okell of the new David Okell Pavilion yesterday at the Croft (Sat 25th April).

Club members were given the opportunity to view the hard work over the winter months of the new look clubhouse, cafe and bar. With everybody suitable impressed and grateful to the volunteers, led by Tim Rogers and Lee Dwyer, who have carried out the work, the Clubs President, Jules Shaw, welcomed and introduced John and Rowena Okell. At 2.00pm John Okell officially cut the no expense spared red ribbon and wished everyone well for the forthcoming season. Following the opening of the pavilion the new Cow Corner Cafe and Bar was opened and Tom Davenport received his Lancashire Lightning shirt for winning the junior name the cafe and bar competition.

With the barbeque well alight, the cafe and bar doing roaring trade and the weather remaining dry two friendly games took place on the outfield involving senior and junior players. Despite the very green wicket and low bounce everyone was able to benefit from a pre-season run out. Alongside the two friendly games a diamond game of cricket took place involving younger juniors and not so young junior parents !

The day was a huge success and a great opportunity for new members to witness the club at its best. Thanks to those attending for supporting the first of many social club events in 2023. Thanks to the Ardens for the All Day Barbeque, the Coffee Shop and Bar team, the candy floss making team, players and umpires who not only played in and officiated the games but also spent the morning working on ground preparation work and the Okell’s for joining in the celebrations.
